Heritage Open Days are an annual celebration of England’s fantastic architecture and culture. Every year over four days in September, buildings of every age, style and function throw open their doors and offer free access to places that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission.
This year Sum Studios will be taking part in the event so come along and view the newly restored Anns Grove School – which has been restored to host digital and creative business, local studios and start-up spaces for local business. The former Anns Grove School is Sheffield’s largest Grade II listed Board School and much of the architectural detail, quality of the building and original design can be seen. Tours will include an introduction to the environmental features and performance of the building, its heritage and history. You can also view proposals for the future and register your vital support for the next phases of the project. Everyone is welcome, although children will need to be supervised by an adult at all times as there are some big steps and drops in the building!
This is a joint event with the new Anns Grove School, next door. Come and see the contrast between old and new; one a listed Victorian building, the other a unique new environmentally innovative primary with innovations such as the use of old newspaper and recycled denim jeans for wall insulation – a first for a building project in the UK.
Sum Studios is open 11am to 4pm and Anns Grove School open 11am – 3pm on Saturday 14th September. We hope to see you there!
