The latest phase of the Sum development, which saves the two undeveloped buildings from further dereliction, is now complete. Contractors have fully repaired both roofs on the old Hartley and Gleadless buildings, and have cleared the insides, treated dry rot and cleared all asbestos. Fire and security systems were also fitted to both buildings, and the buildings are now safe and secure awaiting further redevelopment.
These buildings will provide the arts studios and workshops, rehearsal space, the new venue hall, and training facilities and spaces.
Heeley Development Trust are now busy raising the finance needed to hopefully complete the development. No easy task at the moment, but we hope to have some news soon.
Letters and notes of support for the development gratefully received.
Sum / HDT would like to thank Sheffield City Council for funding this crucial phase of the project.
